Oct 6, 1998Former mercenary Leon Papas dies suspiciously after falling from a cliff in Isidoros Village. Visiting lecturer Taichi Hiraga-Keaton receives a call from Lloyd's of London and travels to the Dodecanese to investigate. Keaton meets Papas’s girlfriend Sofia and shady art dealer Ox Bayer, introducing himself as an insurance investigator. Sofia reveals Papas collected ancient underwater relics after the Western Sahara War but was pressured to surrender them to Bayer. During their time with the Polisario Front, Papas destroyed the Capitoline Temple at Volubilis, killing seven men. Keaton realizes Bayer seeks Papas’s hidden treasure and escapes Bayer’s gunfire with Sofia. Bayer, recognizing Keaton as his former survival training instructor, is defeated. Sofia explains Papas refused to give up rare coins of Ithaca, leading Bayer to push him off the cliff. These coins depict Ulysses, who took ten years to reach Ithaca and fell in love there. Grateful, Sofia gives one coin to Keaton before he departs.
2EP 2Bounty hunters target Red Army Faction members in Düsseldorf while Keaton intervenes.
Oct 13, 1998Stuart Pitock, Tonio, and Walter monitor Rosa Raine and Frederick Hoffman of the Red Army Faction in Düsseldorf. They invite Keaton to their base, where he notes Rosa’s desire to surrender despite her high bounty. The hunters later spot Thomas Mueller and Augusto Atcar heading to a hideout. Keaton realizes Pitock seeks Heinz Becker, who intends to torture Rosa. After Becker captures Walter, Pitock plans a morning raid. Keaton independently breaks into the hideout’s second floor to rescue Rosa and Walter. The hunters enter but find Becker, Mueller, and Atcar trapped on the first floor. In the hospital, Keaton confirms Rosa’s surrender. Pitock explains the hunters were caught off guard by Keaton’s separate entry. He then reveals Keaton’s background as a former Special Air Service member and Oxford graduate.
3EP 3Keaton and Flora escape pursuit after Marco Belnine's funeral in Florence.
Oct 20, 1998Following Marco Belnine's death in Florence, his mother Mrs. Belnine requests Keaton secure custody of daughter Flora Belnine from wife Ann Belnine. Keaton previously met Ann in Marseilles, where she rejected her mother-in-law and ended her relationship with lover Alan. After being ejected by bodyguard Franco, Keaton discovers Flora hiding in his car. They dine at a restaurant where Flora recalls dancing with Marco, then flee Franco by boarding a train. Flora learns Keaton is divorced and has a nightmare at a hotel about Ann remarrying a year after Marco's death. Keaton reassures her Ann is waiting. En route to Marseilles, they encounter Mrs. Belnine and Franco. Keaton defeats Franco, and Flora reveals she knew about Ann's affair, expressing admiration for her mother. Mrs. Belnine leaves disappointed. Keaton tells Flora a skunk joke, and they dance under the moonlight before arriving in Marseilles.
4EP 4Keaton and Semionov escape the Russian Mafia and discuss the lost gold roubles of Nicholas II.
Oct 27, 1998While driving in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains, Keaton picks up Andrei Semionov, a Russian Mafia teacher owing 100,000 dollars. They evade pursuers by detonating their vehicle and take shelter in an igloo during a blizzard. Inside, they debate the fate of 500 tons of gold roubles left by Nicholas II and his family. Semionov claims Nikita Volkonsky sank the treasure in the Arctic Ocean after mistaking a humpback whale for a U-boat, while Keaton believes it went to Siberia. Volkonsky’s journey ended with his wife’s death and his son becoming an orphan in China. The next day, the Russian Mafia spots them. Semionov survives a chest wound because a diary protected his heart. As they walk toward town, it is implied that Semionov is Volkonsky’s son.
5EP 5Keaton’s Paris Lecture and Reunion with Professor Scott
Nov 3, 1998At the Simmons Adult Education Center in Paris, Keaton delivers a special presentation on European civilizations originating in Egypt. The school president informs him that the forty-year-old building will soon be demolished to make way for a retirement home planned by Minister of Culture Moreau, who intends to preserve a mural. Upon returning to his apartment, Keaton is surprised by the arrival of his daughter Yuriko Hiraga. While eating on the rooftop, he expresses his desire to study archaeology, comparing it to attics. The following day, Yuriko attends Keaton’s second lecture, where he reveals theories about civilizations along the Danube drainage basin. Moreau attempts to interrupt, but Keaton continues, explaining that his mentor, Professor Yuri Scott, encouraged him to pursue this research after Keaton failed his thesis. Keaton resolves to return to Japan to live near Yuriko and fulfill his archaeological dreams. After the final presentation, which Keaton completes without interruption, the building is demolished. He later attends a farewell party and reunites with Scott, who praises his work.
6EP 6Keaton and Plummer protect Guinevere's tomb from Edward Langley's construction plans.
Nov 10, 1998On the Isles of Scilly, Keaton joins Professor Anna Plummer at the Tomb of Queen Guinevere to stop Edward Langley from paving a race track. Edward arrives with bulldozers, intending to begin construction the next morning, but Plummer confronts him. Inside the tomb, where Guinevere served as a druid priestess, Keaton and Plummer restore a mural while Lady Langley observes. Keaton explains the ruins belong to a distinct religious race, while Plummer reveals her mother died in a coma after dedicating her life to proving her theories post-war. To halt the bulldozers, they spill soapy water the following morning. Lady Langley then slaps Edward and orders him home. As Keaton departs, Plummer praises his maturity.
7EP 7Keaton and Taihei seek pennyroyal mint to recreate summer pudding with Patricia's help.
Nov 17, 1998Keaton and Yuriko visit Taihei Hiraga, Keaton’s father, at a summer cottage where Taihei’s friend Akemi drops him off. Yuriko hopes to reconcile the men with their ex-wives, Patricia Hiraga and another unnamed spouse. While Yuriko chats with neighbors Mr. Shinjo, Mrs. Shinjo, and Mrs. Murata, Keaton and Taihei discuss their divorces and attempt to make buckwheat noodles and summer pudding. After discovering rotted horseradishes, Keaton identifies the need for pennyroyal mint, previously grown by Patricia. He borrows Taihei’s dog Taisuke to locate the field. The men build a windpump to water the crops, disturbing neighbors. Keaton deduces Patricia returned to Cornwall due to the mint. Taihei receives a call from Akemi and departs for Tokyo with buckwheat and horseradishes. Keaton and Yuriko harvest the mint and prepare the pudding together.
8EP 8Keaton negotiates a ransom drop after Shuji Takita is kidnapped in Cardiff.
Nov 24, 1998Shuji Takita, manager of Yazawa Electronics in Cardiff, is abducted in Sherwood Forest with a 25 million pound ransom. His wife reports the crime to president Fumio Hisayama, while Superintendent Costner notifies Inspector Douglas. Lloyd's of London sends Keaton as negotiator, instructing Mrs. Takita to handle all calls. After learning Shuji was strangled in Milford Haven and had quit his job, Mrs. Takita reveals his work obsession to Keaton and father Kozue Takita. Inspector Douglas identifies suspect Jack Carol, who had conflicts with Shuji. The kidnapper reduces the ransom to under three million pounds and directs Mrs. Takita to a drop-off point with a photo showing Shuji with a severed finger. Mrs. Takita delivers the money and receives a call from Shuji, confirming his safety as authorities prepare to arrest the kidnapper.
9EP 9Keaton assists a woman with lost documents on a train to Basel
Dec 1, 1998On a train from Düsseldorf to Basel, Keaton helps a woman who lost her purse containing her ticket and passport after passing through Cologne. He pays for her ticket, and she gives him a jewel while forcing a stop at Koblenz. She claims to be Louise von Hohenstaufen, a Bohemian noblewoman pursued by the StB since World War II. Keaton encourages her to sing a folk song to bypass customs. At the border, he realizes she is German, not Swiss. She reveals her true name is Helmina Welf, whose family was separated by the Inner German border. Her husband Rudolf and son Otto disappeared into East Germany ten years ago. She gives Keaton a ring as proof. Later, Keaton meets business partner Daniel O'Connell and confirms the gemstone originated in Saxony, leading him to accept her story as true.
10EP 10Detective Charlie Chapman investigates a murder case involving forged art and a framed suspect.
Dec 8, 1998Detective Charlie Chapman interrogates suspect Garner, who denies murdering art dealer Edward Dorfman. Charlie advises Garner to defend himself in court rather than commit suicide. Keaton and Daniel invite Huk-Shu to taste Roddy’s whiskey deep-fried sweet and sour pork and dried persimmon mooncakes prepared by Son-Rei. Jan 5, 1998Richard Connelly, an Irish Republican Army bomb expert, tasks Keaton with locating a concealed explosive in the Benson & Son's shopping center. After recalling his grandfather, Connelly and Keaton descend to the basement to neutralize a shaped charge planted by terrorist Gerald Donavan. They then discover the main device on the top floor. To prevent accidental detonation via vibration, Keaton injects a solidifying liquid that coagulates after ten minutes. As Connelly unscrews the casing, he observes the copper melting rapidly. Keaton retrieves two chocolate bars to assist in the delicate defusal process. Connelly survives the operation but is wounded. He later returns to his grandfather's funeral, placing a chocolate bar inside the coffin to honor his memory.
14EP 14Keaton and Shreider search for Rosa, who is revealed to be Hanna, Teresa's babysitter.
Jan 12, 1999Shreider tasks Keaton with locating his former wife Louise, who remained in East Germany eighteen years ago while pregnant. In Dresden, Kohl confirms Louise had a daughter named Rosa, who loved a music box before vanishing after Louise died in a concentration camp. Keaton discovers Shreider developed military computers underground, allowing Louise to stay behind so he and assistant Teresa could escape to West Germany. 15EP 15Keaton confronts Michael Robert and his military attack dog Johnny in the mountains.
Jan 19, 1999Keaton pursues Michael Robert, who resides at Cazarus Mountain Lodge and owes money from an insurance fraud. Michael releases his dog Johnny to attack Keaton’s taxi driver. After hitchhiking to a bar, Keaton follows the dog to Burguete. Johnny attacks Keaton in the woods, but Hunter scares it away. Keaton learns Michael served in the Vietnam War and studied veterinary medicine at the University of Massachusetts Amherst to train attack dogs. Johnny distracts Hunter, leading him to a pigpen before attacking. Keaton throws a rock, causing Johnny to retreat with Hunter’s rifle. Keaton lures Johnny to a stream and traps him underwater. Michael is arrested, shocked that Keaton survived and Johnny is captured.
16EP 16Keaton helps Robert Fenders and Lord Fenders find renewal through an elm tree and music.
Jan 26, 1999Keaton encounters Robert Fenders, whose father Lord Fenders declared bankruptcy two years ago and sold his estate. Robert, exiled from the mansion ten years ago, once composed music fueled by resentment toward his father’s arrogance. Lord Fenders now visits the site of the old elm, where he burned Robert’s compositions after lightning struck the tree. Robert has lost his musical passion since his father became reserved. After Lord Fenders rejects a business proposal from Mr. Greenpark, Keaton urges Robert to restore the elm. Keaton and Greenpark invite Lord Fenders to a restaurant where Robert performs. Nostalgic, Lord Fenders returns to find the elm sprouting new buds, symbolizing renewal. He agrees to accept Greenpark’s proposal, while encouraging Robert to pursue his ambitions.
17EP 17Keaton investigates Edmund Lyman's murder while protecting widow Flora from hidden dangers.
Feb 9, 1999At Edmund Lyman's funeral, bodyguard Charlie stops Keaton from approaching widow Flora. Daniel reveals Edmund was murdered in his rose garden, with gardener Eric Lyndon as the missing prime suspect. Charlie and Flora survive a sabotaged car crash. Keaton gathers evidence while Charlie notices Flora's poisoned dog. Keaton finds Flora tending an unnamed rose near a fresh grave. He learns Edmund died near thornless Sterling Silver roses despite facial abrasions from an autopsy. Keaton discovers poison and Eric's blood in the garden shed, deducing Eric was also killed by Flora. Flora confesses to murdering Edmund after an affair with Eric, then killing Eric to bury him in the plot. Keaton reveals Eric intended to name the rose Graceful Flora. Feb 16, 1999After Professor Benington crashes into Travis, he vows to repay the debt, unaware that Travis and Galade are con men who staged the accident. At Lambeth College, Benington runs for chancellor against William Stephane, who plans to sell the grounds. Galade claims Travis is paralyzed and his atlas is fractured, while Webb notes Benington took a second mortgage. Keaton grows suspicious after spilling tea on Travis’s hand. The con men realize Benington should win, especially after the Chancellor receives anonymous accusations from Webb and suffers a heart attack. Keaton finds an unusual pill, leading Benington to accuse Stephane of switching medication. The con men stage a hit-and-run against Stephane, causing him to crash. Keaton visits the injured Travis, who admits to the scam. Benington is elected chancellor, saving the school.

Mar 2, 1999On Cara Island, Keaton and Eric Graves are served tea by waiter Jonathan. Eric aspires to join the Special Air Service. After witnessing alcoholic Mr. Foster harass waitress Helen, gunshots ring out near the quay. Keaton and Eric discover a dead man and a heavily wounded Detective Rupert. They carry Rupert to the hotel lobby, where they are surrounded by armed Polish mafia members Mr. Herman, Otto, and Karol. Forced to wait six hours for the sandbar to reappear, the mafia confine Keaton, Eric, Rupert, Foster, Jonathan, and Helen to a second-floor room. Rupert explains he intervened when Oscar Neal, a Lessing Pharmaceuticals researcher, handed over a stolen floppy disk with a secret asthma cure. The mafia killed Oscar and plan to distribute the cure. They take Keaton to repair a boat while others remain. Foster, a former colonel, attempts to shoot the mafia using Eric as bait but is subdued by Herman. Foster stalls Herman until Keaton breaks the window and captures him. With Foster and Rupert recovering, Eric describes Foster as a brave coward.
21EP 21Keaton and Taihei investigate the thistle emblem on a watch and whisky bottle in Edinburgh.
Mar 9, 1999In Edinburgh, Keaton waits for Professor Amada to compare sake and Scotch whisky. He shows Taihei a Scottish antique watch with a thistle coat of arms, originally kept in a Japanese shrine. Keaton researched the National Archives of Scotland, linking the emblem to Strathspey and Angus T. Charmichael, the Lord of Scotch. He recounts Angus’s tragic life during the Reformation, including his orphanage, the death of his lover Ann Macrae, and a shipwreck with servant Fiddich. Keaton also mentions a legend about a sea tengu forbidden to love a merchant’s daughter. Taihei notes the sake bottle has a similar thistle, but Keaton spots a difference in the coat of arms. Amada arrives, implying he is a descendant of Angus.

23EP 23Keaton captures Bruce Kendall in the Lake District while navigating dangerous marshes and hostile supporters.
Mar 23, 1999In the Lake District, Keaton captures criminal Bruce Kendall at a petrol station and plans to walk along a side road to Coniston Water to hand him over to waiting police. Disillusioned supporter Andy shoots two officers, while Keaton fights three other supporters and confiscates a shotgun. Bruce, who murdered a union leader and robbed banks to protest the Morcom Group, had his crimes linked to the corporation by an accountant. At a pub, supporter Jack hesitates to shoot Keaton until Bruce restrains him. Keaton removes a bullet from the shotgun before Bruce can fire. Andy, disguised as a policeman, forces them into the bog. Keaton wounds Andy with the bent shotgun, causing Bruce to surrender. Keaton and Bruce then carry the wounded Andy toward a hospital.
24EP 24Daniel and Keaton investigate the suspicious death of archaeologist Stuart Atkins in White Wells.
Mar 30, 1999Ten years ago in White Wells, Daniel interviews site supervisor Davis regarding the death of assistant professor Stuart Atkins, who fell into a lake. Keaton, working part-time, discovered a Celtic brooch and clothing linked to Atkins. Daniel finds a wine flagon chip in Atkins's pocket, suggesting foul play. Davis admits to a wage dispute with Atkins and drinking with him afterward. Keaton notes the chip retains a fresh wine scent. They later find a second chip in Professor Powell's office. Powell confesses to striking Atkins with the flagon after Atkins choked him, as Atkins was jealous of Powell's engagement to Stevens's daughter Dolly. Keaton arrests Powell before he can shoot. Daniel then proposes a business partnership to Keaton.
