In Burgundy, Victor Chanbonne and his wife Marguerite urge servant Libero to modernize winemaking traditions at their château. Libero opposes expanding the vineyard, preferring to maintain outdated methods. Keaton discovers the history of the rare Chateau Lajonchee 1944 wine, which Marguerite plans to sell for 10 million francs to Horizon, a whisky company, to pay off debts. She intends to replace oak barrels with stainless steel and wooden tanks with plastic to improve fermentation. During a tour, Victor reveals that Libero once saved him from German soldiers during World War II. At a dinner party, Victor shatters the bottle before handing it to Horizon CEO Jan Michel Queff. Keaton later learns that Marguerite has not visited the vineyard since her parents died. Libero had anticipated Victor’s actions and swapped the bottle with another vintage wine. Both Victor and Marguerite taste the final glass of the original Chateau Lajonchee 1944.
