Ep. 2: Mei navigates Meiji era life while Ogai and Shunso seek a missing spirit cat.

Mei awakens in Ogai’s mansion, remembering how he used her school uniform as a distraction to bring her there with Shunso. Struggling with amnesia and the cultural shock of the Meiji era, she learns to wear a kimono with Fumi’s help. Ogai and Shunso then take Mei to a sukiyaki restaurant. A flashback reveals Ogai met Shunso a year ago when the artist sketched a black cat, leading Ogai to predict Shunso’s future fame. Back in the present, Ogai asks Mei, a Tamayori who sees spirits, to locate Shunso’s missing black cat from his painting. That night, Mei finds Charlie in a park. He promises to send her back during the next full moon in a month, advises her to enjoy life, and convinces her to create makeshift mops for Fumi before departing to find the cat.
