Inside a Kagurazaka geisha house, Mei seeks refinement under Otojirou’s strict guidance, which covers proper posture, movement, and dining etiquette. She swears to keep this initial lesson secret before returning to the mansion, where she encounters Shunso. He asks her to model for his art, but Ogai interrupts. The following day, Mei invites Kyouka into her room to help him escape a pursuing dog. Kyouka offers Mei an anpan, but accidentally ignites a second one while attempting to sterilize it with a candle. They extinguish the flames using cushions. Mei then volunteers to serve as a geisha at an evening banquet, prompting further instruction from Otojirou on social conduct. Concurrently, Ogai invites Shunso to an evening event where inventor Tousuke Iwasaki will discuss electric generators.
