Ogai forces Mei and Shunso to eat anpan with tea and rice, but they fail to lure a missing black cat using smoked tuna. Kyouka persuades Mei to help Yakumo apologize to his childhood ghost friend, Jane, who vanished after revealing her faceless form. Yakumo lost his spirit-sight after injuring his left eye and believes supernatural events on the full moon night are punishment. Ogai assigns Shunso to protect Mei. While Shunso sleeps, envious of Mei’s Tamayori status, Jane startles Mei. A panicked Yakumo and patrolling Gorou enter the room. As a medium, Mei clarifies that Jane sought contact out of heartbreak, not malice, and promises to remain by Yakumo’s side. Ogai escorts a relieved Mei to safety.
