Kogoro wins the city lottery for first place, receiving an all-expense paid vacation in a hotel, with Conan and Ran accompanying him. A car exhibition is scheduled for its grand opening at the location. Upon arriving at their room, Conan overhears a man on the phone discussing a "plan for the evening." The hotel owner hires Kogoro to identify the sender of a threatening letter. It is revealed that the owner scammed three guests out of their companies and historic sports cars. Later, the owner goes for a drive and is not found until about 10:00am the next day, coinciding with the exhibition's grand opening. He is discovered dead inside his vehicle from carbon monoxide intoxication. Conan determines that the man he overheard, who was scammed, claims he drove while the owner did the same. However, one hour before discovery, Moore called him asking, "Where am I? Why is it so dark?" Conan notes the victim's car window was slightly open.
