Conan investigates Hank Hamada's brutal death, noting arm marks and proving Richard's innocence by showing Hank died before Richard arrived. Hank was likely tortured for treasure details. Conan and Suzu find Rex Lager's body in a cave, disproving suicide due to the gun hand mismatch. Edmund Hanratty confesses to the murders, motivated by greed. He reveals Hank decapitated a professor, worsening the Pirate's Curse, and had betrayed Rex and the captain years ago on the Ryujinmaru to steal gold. Edmund killed both to frame Richard. The gold is found in moss-covered bricks, but a cave-in traps it. Conan subdues Edmund by kicking a brick into his stomach. The group leaves the cave, sealing the gold and ending the curse.
