Chako and Shingo identify a nano-plant controlling a crustacean, suggesting intelligent life exists on the planet. Shingo proposes using it to repair communications, prompting Howard to assume guaranteed success. After Shingo fails to finish overnight, Howard’s unreasonable expectations lead to a heated argument and Shingo storming off. Luna deduces that Shingo, being two years younger than the other children, suffers more intensely from homesickness. The tension peaks when Howard teases Shingo about crying for his parents in his sleep, causing Shingo to run away. The other children blame Howard, and they find Shingo in the shuttle. Howard attempts to make amends by shouting for his parents on the shoreline, joined by the others except for an embarrassed Kaoru. That night, Shingo completes the repair, but the voice heard is the same one Luna has been hearing in her mind.
