Lee observes Pain from afar while Sakura treats Hinata's injury and Shikamaru watches the Chibaku Tensei. Naruto demands more chakra from the fox, who warns him he cannot yet control it. Kushina feels disturbed by the Nine-Tails' chakra and contacts Naruto in his mind to pass on her share, though the fox refuses. Naruto breaks the technique and defeats Pain, then tracks Nagato, whose words remind him of Yahiko, leading to Konoha's release. Minato and Fugaku discuss Sasuke and Itachi. Sasuke attacks Orochimaru but collapses from poison. He wakes to find Sasori, who offers Akatsuki's help for Sasuke's goal to destroy Konoha.
