Young Sasuke Uchiha requests time with his brother Itachi, who declines to go on a mission. Although their parents announce they are leaving the next day, Sasuke chooses to remain with Itachi, who dedicates their time to training. After dinner, they sleep outside where Itachi attempts to explain the meaning of their clan symbol, but Sasuke merely states he intends to surpass him. By morning, Itachi has already departed. Meanwhile, young Sakura Haruno hides in a makeshift shelter to conceal her forehead and avoid bullying. She meets Ino, who helps fix her bangs and offers encouragement. Sakura later tells her parents she made a friend and shares her crush on Sasuke with Ino, causing jealousy. When Sakura attempts to confess her feelings, Sasuke asks who she is, leading her to flee in frustration.
