Kakeru moves to Matsumoto with his mother after she decides to relocate there for personal reasons. On the first day of school following his transfer, his mother passes away, leading Kakeru to blame himself. Consequently, he declines Suwa's invitation to join the Soccer club. Although he encounters former classmates from Tokyo, none of them comprehend his emotional state. Overwhelmed by distress, Kakeru feels trapped with no apparent way out.
