Hachimaki and Tanabe observe Yuri acting strangely. Tanabe hides her knowledge of Gigalt’s cancer, fearing Hachimaki might share the fate. Philippe Myers explains Yuri’s trauma: his wife died when orbital debris hit their sub-orbital shuttle. Yuri had been searching for her lucky compass since the crash. During a routine retrieval mission, he finds the compass but must move into the debris path to secure it. The impact knocks him unconscious, forcing him into Earth’s atmosphere. Hachimaki and Tanabe must risk their lives to save Yuri from the fatal descent.
