Jessie, James, and Meowth dig a trap for the heroes but fall in themselves. Ash and Misty reach Pewter City, where Flint notices Pikachu’s fatigue and guides them to the Pokemon Center. There, Ash sees a poster for the Pokemon League Regional Championships, which requires defeating gym leaders to earn badges. He challenges Pewter City Gym Leader Brock, but Pikachu loses despite being healed. Flint later reveals that Brock cares for ten siblings when not battling. The episode questions if this affects Ash’s desire for a rematch, Flint’s motives for helping Pikachu train, and whether Team Rocket escapes their hole.
