As Sara prepares to depart the Seminary, the Headmistress interrupts the gathering and joins Mr. Barrow to inventory her belongings. Mr. Barrow suggests leniency, proposing that Sara work as a maid to settle her debts. After he departs, the Headmistress retrieves Sara's dress, ejects Peter, and leads Sara to her office. Following Mr. Barrow's counsel, she assigns Sara to kitchen labor and allocates a room in the attic for her residence.
