The next day, a jealous rival attempts to take Nenene hostage during her signing, but the Paper Sisters intervene to stop him. Although Nenene hopes to find a connection to her missing friend Yomiko Readman, who has been gone for four years, she learns there is none. Later, another rival attacks Nenene while she is traveling home to Japan, prompting the Paper Sisters to follow and rescue her from the assailant.

While Alice secures the Key, the Paper Sisters face Drake until Wong arrives and kills Arquette. Disgusted by this brutality, the Paper Sisters protect Drake despite being allied with Wong. A masked Junior steals the Key, prompting Drake to flood the cave and assist the Paper Sisters and Nenene in escaping. The sisters reject the partial payment offered by Wong for their involvement.

Deciding to risk creating a world full of enemies, the Paper Sisters launch an assault on Dokusensha to rescue Nenene. They initially fare well during the attack but eventually encounter Wong, a Paper Master who is more powerful than all three sisters combined.
EP 13Michelle and Anita split up to find Nenene while bombs destroy Hong Kong Island.
Dec 1, 2003Michelle and Anita leave Maggie to distract Wong while they search for Nenene. Because only the smaller Anita can traverse the path, she proceeds alone. Wendy and Joker use the distraction to retrieve special books, while Junior plants bombs under the skyscrapers housing the headquarters. Anita rescues Nenene, and although Linho nearly subdues her, he repents and allows them to escape, sacrificing his own life. Maggie escapes from Wong, who falls into the exploding building. The protagonists reunite, but the explosion causes a large portion of Hong Kong Island to sink along with Dokusensha's headquarters.

This figure closely resembles Yomiko standing before the flames in Jinbocho. The event marks a tragic loss for the Paper Masters as their collection is destroyed. Joker's decision leads to the execution of the plan, resulting in the widespread burning of literature. Yomiko and Anita share a moment of grief and reflection amidst the destruction.
EP 17Wendy shoots Yomiko while Junior attempts to steal a book at Yomiko's parents' home

Wendy uses the Mirror Man to make the hostage exchange go in her favor and rescues Joker. However, Anita, Yomiko, Nancy, and Drake manage to escape regardless. EP 24Yomiko travels to London to rescue Nenene while Anita confronts her fabricated past with the Paper Sisters
Mar 1, 2004Yomiko and her companions depart for London to save Nenene and defeat Joker, leaving a distraught Anita behind. Anita returns to Nenene's apartment and encounters Maggie and Michelle. Attempting to leave, she claims their shared existence is a fabrication. The two women help Anita understand that although their memories of the past are false, their current life together is real. The reformed Paper Sisters then fly to the United Kingdom. Upon arrival, they discover that the British Library has transformed the entire country into a mythical nineteenth-century landscape. This revelation sets the stage for their next confrontation in this altered environment.
