After enduring numerous deaths, Subaru leads his forces to victory against the White Whale and thwarts the Sin Archbishop of Sloth. He finally reunites with Emilia, only to discover that Rem’s existence has been erased from the world by the White Whale during one of his death loops. With the whale defeated, Subaru and his companions confront an unexpected crisis that challenges their understanding of reality and the consequences of their actions.

Subaru and Emilia return to Arlam after meeting Crusch, only to find it deserted and learn the villagers have not yet returned from the Sanctuary.

Following their discussions with Crusch, Subaru and Emilia travel back to the village of Arlam to report to Roswaal and plan their next steps. Upon arrival, they discover the settlement is completely empty. They learn that the villagers who had sought refuge in the Sanctuary alongside Ram have not yet returned. Seeking information on the Sanctuary's location, Subaru and Emilia proceed to Roswaal's mansion. There, they are greeted by Frederica, a young woman who previously served as one of Roswaal's maids. This encounter provides a new point of contact as they attempt to uncover the whereabouts of the missing villagers and the Sanctuary itself.

Subaru informs them that he successfully passed the trial independently and proposes taking on the remaining stages of the trial in Emilia’s stead. However, Garfiel strongly opposes this suggestion, creating conflict regarding the next steps.

Subaru decides to offer himself as bait to stall her, allowing Garfiel to intercept and attack. Despite this strategy, Subaru remains helpless against the Witch of Envy. The darkness continues to engulf their surroundings as the threat persists. The situation remains dire with no immediate resolution in sight for the trapped characters.

Subaru travels to Roswaal's mansion to investigate the situation and determine how to resolve it. He orders Frederica and Petra to evacuate to Arlam Village to ensure their safety from Elsa. Afterward, he enters Beatrice's forbidden library to persuade her to leave. However, Beatrice's desires conflict with his plans, causing their conversation to stall without progress. Despite these obstacles, Elsa unexpectedly manages to infiltrate the forbidden library, creating a dangerous confrontation that defies logical expectations.
