The army prepares to fight Shougo and his Christian martyrs. Sanosuke attempts to bring Lady Magdalia to Sir Elsten, eventually encountering him with Santo. Santo tries to shoot Sir Elsten to aid Kaiou's goals, but Lady Magdalia intercepts the bullet. Sanosuke defeats Santo and returns her medallion before she dies. Sir Elsten rushes to the holy hill to stop the war. Kenshin arrives to halt the conflict, confronting Shougo and warning him that he will be fought if children are forced to sacrifice themselves.
