A round man loses control of his dogs after breaking a whistle, forcing Kenshin to save them both. Confused by orders to kill a supposed demon, the man chains Kenshin to a tree and consults Lady Magdalia. Kaoru confronts Shougo about his mission. Kenshin frees himself and waits as the group arrives. Shougo fights Kenshin to prove his superiority. Kenshin uses the Kuzu-ryuusen technique to show mercy instead of the Amakakeru Ryuu no Hirameki. Despite this, Shougo blinds Kenshin, causing him to fall off a cliff into the water below.
