This episode was streamed exclusively online between May 18 and May 30, 2010, on the anime's official website, replacing the TV broadcast of Episode 7. It was deemed too controversial for regular television because it presented the Mukden Incident from the viewpoint of Japanese characters. The narrative follows two young newspaper reporters traveling on the South Manchuria Railway who encounter Kanji Ishiwara, a Lieutenant Colonel of the Kwantung Army. Ishiwara is depicted as having helped devise the bombing to justify attacking Manchuria under the guise of self-defense. Other historical figures, including Seishirō Itagaki and Yoshitsugu Tatekawa, also appear in the story.
