Ep. 8: Medusa the Witch Carries the Great Terrible Soul?

Maka and Soul face death at Crona's hands until Stein and Death Scythe intervene. They struggle against Ragnarok's power to turn blood into weapons but combine forces to defeat Crona, who is then taken by the observing witch Medusa. After Soul undergoes surgery, Stein assures Maka of his recovery while secretly admitting to Death Scythe that his body is infected by Ragnarok's blood. Maka vows to grow stronger and finds comfort in the school nurse, unaware that this woman is the same witch who previously attacked them.
