Ep. 18: Frieren and Fern prepare for the First-Class Mage Exam while Kraft saves Übel from bandits.

Traveling toward Äußerst Fern, Frieren and Fern discuss the rarity of first-class mages. Fern doubts her abilities, but Frieren shares that she has lost eleven times to mages with lower mana capacity. Meanwhile, Kraft intervenes when Übel taunts three bandits, revealing he protects them from her because she has murdered many. After introducing themselves, they part ways. Frieren and Fern arrive at the association and sign up for the exam. Two months later, the test begins. Frieren is paired with childhood friends Lawine and Kanne, while Fern teams with Übel. The first challenge involves capturing a Stille, a bird faster than sound. Despite constant bickering, Lawine and Kanne display flawless teamwork. After Frieren saves Kanne from a monster, Kanne explains she stays with Lawine to improve herself. Kanne then observes the Stille's behavior, helping Frieren devise a plan to capture one.
