While traveling to Zia's village, the children notice two men in panther skins following them. Upon arrival, they discover the settlement is deserted and encounter Gomez, Gaspard, and their soldiers. Gomez threatens to feed Esteban and Tao to army ants unless Zia reveals the golden quipu's message. She agrees, stating that a City of Gold sits on a mountain peak beyond a forbidden zone. The children are subsequently rescued by the two pursuers, Wayna and Kecha, who state that their chief Kraka wants to meet them. A mini-documentary about Incan-origin village festivals in present-day Peru is included.
