While the impostor Akagi loses, Kawada asks the real Akagi to substitute, but he refuses until Osamu plays first. Osamu wins two hands unaware of the 32 million bet, then loses confidence upon learning the stakes, allowing Akagi to take his place. In the opening hand, both Akagi and Urabe ignore their winning chances, resulting in a tie. Akagi voluntarily pays an 8,000 points penalty for hiding his tenpai, claiming this sacrifice grants him three decisive turns. Later, he declares an open riichi to pressure Urabe. When Urabe discards the necessary tile, Akagi declines the win to continue accumulating points instead.
