From 1986 to 1998, Ange studies at St. Lucia Academy, where she faces bullying and learns magic from Maria, whose soul resides in a diary. Maria recounts her neglect by Rosa and care by Sakutaro, a stuffed lion doll. In 1998, Ange flees her aunt Kasumi, who hunts her for fortune, with help from bodyguard Amakusa. Later, Ange becomes Battler’s ally, Gretel, in Purgatory, persuading Beatrice to allow blue text for Battler’s theories. During the 1986 conference, Kyrie theorizes Kinzo is dead and seventeen people are on the island. Battler adopts this view using blue text. Kyrie sends Krauss and Natsuhi to prove Kinzo alive, prompting Kinzo to attend the conference and resolve the dispute directly.
