Ep. 29: Oscar becomes French Guards commander while facing unit boycott and Gerodere's secret proposal
Oscar assumes command of the rough, commoner-heavy French Guards Company B. She informs Andre that she does not reciprocate his feelings, yet he transfers to her unit to protect her. The soldiers boycott her inaugural review due to her aristocratic status. Oscar challenges a troop member to a duel, promising to resign if she loses but demanding the review proceed if she wins. She secures victory, allowing the ceremony to occur. Squad leader Alain de Soissons notes that this win does not guarantee full acceptance, citing that most soldiers serve only for pay. Gerodere, Oscar’s former subordinate, makes a brief, strange visit. Upon questioning her former nanny, Oscar learns that Gerodere sought her father’s permission to marry her, a request her father granted.
