Bernard informs Andre that he and Rosalie are married and working for Robespierre, as public poverty peaks. The king convenes the Etats-Generaux after centuries of absence. Seven-year-old Crown Prince Joseph, gravely ill, rides with Oscar and vows to become King. Alain visits Company B for the ceremony, while Fersen returns to Sweden. At the opening, no one claps for Marie Antoinette. After a month of tense debate between commoners and nobles, Oscar suspects an issue with Andre's right eye. Joseph dies with the King and Queen present, dreaming of returning to Versailles with Oscar.
