Mac is despondent and wanders the streets. Joe begins training with Yuri and Aragaki, while the children work on improving and fitting Chief's Gear on Joe; their focus is not on defeating Mac, but on playing defensively so that Joe can finish the fight safely. Mac runs into an old colleague from his days as a police officer, who tells him how others look up to him, both as an officer and as a Megalo-boxer. Mac reminisces about his life and the story of the hummingbird and the nomad that he used to read to Miguel; the nomad wanders believing they have lost everything, but the hummingbird repeatedly reminds them of the things they still have and sings them a song.
