Sinbad and Shera’s vessel halts for water, but crew members destroying a roc egg provoke the birds to sink the ship. The duo survives on a fertile island where they meet an old man demanding a ride. He mounts Sinbad’s shoulders and refuses to dismount, forcing the hero to carry him across the terrain. Sinbad eventually tricks the man into drinking wine, causing him to become intoxicated. As the drunkard attempts to hurl a boulder, his clumsiness triggers an avalanche that buries him, allowing Sinbad to escape. This narrative adapts the fifth voyage from Sinbad the Sailor folklore.
