Captain-Commander Genryuusai Shigekuni Yamamoto convenes all Soul Reaper captains to address the Bount threat, issuing a standing order to execute suspected intruders without hesitation. He assigns Captain Toushirou Hitsugaya the responsibility of defeating the Bounts. In the Rukongai region surrounding the Seireitei fortress, Bounts Jin Kariya and Goh Koga successfully defeat the Soul Reapers dispatched to capture them. Simultaneously, Ichigo Kurosaki and his companions enter the Soul Society. Yoruichi Shihouin reveals that Maki Ichinose, a Soul Reaper serving under Kariya, manipulated Captain Mayuri Kurotsuchi into opening the gate to the Soul Society.
