Minoru and Maria visit a Japanese-themed bar to inquire about a T-shaped purple mark but are stopped by the bartender. Alphard plans an unknown event, irritating Liang Qi, who wants to attack Canaan immediately. Canaan uses synesthesia to reach Maria, who is confined to a dilapidated apartment with Minoru. The pair tour Shanghai, visiting the Bund Sightseeing Tunnel. Canaan is lured away from the tram to inspect a trap, leaving Maria missing. Canaan confronts a young Borner infected with the Ua virus, who can hide in narrow spaces. She kills him with a precise shot to retrieve the detonator for the explosive attached to Maria's head.
