While Dr. Lenard’s wife visits family, Candy substitutes as a nurse at his practice. She joins him on housecalls and realizes the profession offers stability. When a note requests help for a woman in labor during a blizzard, Candy insists on accompanying the doctor despite his concerns. He shares a story about a legendary Red Cross nurse from the Civil War. Candy comforts the patient, resulting in the birth of a healthy baby boy. Back at Pony's Home, Miss Pony and Sister Maria suggest she is ready to become a caretaker at the orphanage. However, Candy declares her desire to be a nurse. Fortunately, Miss Pony has a friend who heads a nursery school and agrees to provide a recommendation letter for her.
