Sandra, Captain Nieven’s daughter, has neglected her father for over six months and associates with a local gang. While Candy cares for Cookie, who requires two months to heal from a double fracture, Sandra becomes jealous of the attention Candy receives from her father. She initially threatens to expose the stowaways to customs but backs down after they agree to keep her gang affiliation secret. When Captain Nieven leaves for business, Sandra allows her friends to take Candy to a dance club to meet their leader, Charlie. Terry, Charlie’s childhood friend, recently gave Charlie his Academy suit, which Candy recognized. Captain Nieven arrives at the club, fights a hoodlum, and forbids Sandra from associating with criminals. When a gang member attempts to stab the captain, Sandra intervenes to save him, leading to reconciliation between father and daughter. With their help, Candy boards a train near Lake Michigan. In the snow, she unsuccessfully flags down a carriage, unaware that Terry is inside, looking in her direction but failing to see her.
