Ep. 66: Candy Meets Her Benefactor and Learns About Loneliness in the Hospital

Candy eagerly visits her benefactor, grandfather William, who is initially asleep. Upon waking, she introduces herself as his adoptive daughter, but he is revealed to be William McGregor, who harbors a strong dislike for the Ardleys. Their argument triggers chest pains in McGregor, prompting Merry Jane to return responsibility to Franny and send Candy to the park. There, an elderly woman shares her experience of being hospitalized for six months, explaining that she mistreated staff due to loneliness but now prefers the kindness of nurses. Realizing McGregor may be similarly isolated, Candy asks Merry Jane to let her care for him again, but Dr. Frank denies the request. However, after seeing Mr. Brighton pray for McGregor’s recovery, the patient himself requests Candy’s care.
