Ep. 18: Reinhard and Kircheis face promotion after Hameln II escapes Alliance ambush using solar eruption
Reinhard von Müsel executes a plan to use a predicted solar eruption to boost the destroyer Hameln II away from an Alliance ambush. When a crew member attempts to flee in an escape pod due to fear of stellar gravity, Reinhard and Siegfried Kircheis stop him. Engine repairs stall because a thruster requires external fixing. Lieutenant Bertram volunteers for the hazardous task to atone for killing Rolf Zaidel, working alongside Rolf's brother. As the ship positions for the eruption, Bertram and Zaidel are ejected into space. Bertram sacrifices himself to save Zaidel, allowing Hameln II to escape. Upon returning to Iserlohn Fortress, Reinhard is promoted for saving the ship and crew, after which he and Kircheis are transferred to new assignments.
