Edward and Alphonse are hospitalized after the fifth laboratory incident. Ross reprimands Edward for recklessness and urges him to trust adults. Edward requests Winry’s assistance for automail repairs in Central. Upon her arrival, Alphonse reflects on Barry’s words. Hughes invites Winry to his daughter Elicia’s birthday party, where she complains about the brothers’ secrecy. Hughes explains that men hide things to avoid worrying others. Alphonse confronts Edward about being an artificial soul. Edward leaves, and Winry reveals his fear that Alphonse blamed him for the armor. The brothers fight, with Edward winning, and they reminisce about past conflicts, reaffirming their bond. Meanwhile, Scar awakens among Ishvalan refugees.
