Ep. 4: The trio seeks the Dream Butterfly to restore Setsuna's sleep while negotiating with Root Head for portal access.

Three girls attempt to return to the past to capture the Dream Butterfly and restore Setsuna's ability to sleep. During their preparation in the modern world, Moroha negotiates with Root Head at the Tree of Ages to reopen the portal in exchange for their Rainbow Pearls. After receiving a violin and packing supplies, the group departs but is interrupted by the Spirit of the Tree of Ages, appearing as Kikyou. She requests they stop Kirinmaru, a rival of their grandfather, and Sesshoumaru, who has renounced his title. The Spirit demands they kill both simultaneously, but Setsuna refuses while Towa chooses to meet Sesshoumaru. They defeat Root Head and arrive in the past, greeted by Kaede, Kohaku, and Hisui. Towa realizes they cannot return without Root Head. Meanwhile, the Spirit watches Rin in suspended animation, warning Sesshoumaru that she will never awaken if he forsakes her.
