With Akashi dead, Hajime reviews alibis while Miyuki reveals Himuro survived a mountain plane crash 10 years ago. Hajime notices Himuro's self-portrait vanished from the annex video, later replaced by a new painting, and finds rope evidence allowing a 5-minute river crossing. Akechi learns Kano, Hiruta, and Akashi reported the crash. They find Hiruta dead, and Akechi accuses Himuro of being an impostor who died in the crash, with Hiruta using a stand-in for profit. Bursting into Himuro's locked room, they find him dead from an overdose with a suicide letter. The letter confesses to the murders, revealing his real name is Takau Mizunuma, who buried the real Himuro to steal his fortune. Hajime remains suspicious despite the apparent closure.
