Despite the case being considered closed, Hajime remains determined to identify the actual perpetrator. He theorizes that one of the airplane crash survivors altered their identity to seek vengeance. Hajime demonstrates that Marina Ayatsuji was capable of committing the crimes, leading to her eventual confession. She reveals that she was ten years old, known as Marina Kuze, when she survived the crash and failed to save her trapped mother. She requested assistance from Kano, Akashi, Hiruta, and Mizunuma upon their arrival, but they declined. Blaming them for her mother's death, she pursued revenge and expresses gratitude to Hajime for uncovering the truth.
