Ep. 4: Sendel entrusts Keaton with a briefcase containing a bomb and a message from Alexeyev.

On a stormy day in Formentera, Sendel handcuffs himself to a briefcase and discards the key into the sea. Keaton discovers an ornamental seashell, deducing that oriental agriculture reached the island roughly 7,000 years ago. Sendel asks Keaton to discreetly observe Velasco, the mistress of a nearby mansion, at a restaurant. Keaton concludes that Velasco is unhappy with his fortunate lifestyle. Sendel recounts his involvement in the Spanish Civil War fifty years ago, where he fought alongside Russian spies Tomski and Alexeyev. The three became friends during a fireworks celebration but later betrayed each other. It is revealed that Tomski is actually Velasco, while Alexeyev was a fugitive for forty years. Sendel received the briefcase from Alexeyev, which contained a message to keep his pocket watch if he did not return. Although the briefcase holds a bomb, Sendel changes his mind due to Keaton’s positive outlook. Keaton unlocks the handcuffs with tweezers, allowing the bomb to detonate safely on the beach. Sendel finds closure by remembering the fireworks display, finally pardoning his past.
