Ogai writes The Dancing Girl while Mei considers remaining in the Meiji era. At breakfast, he reveals the work is a romance, prompting discussion with Mei and Fumi. Mei observes Ogai bathing at noon, and Tenshin Okakura visits to support both Ogai’s writing and Shunso’s art. Later, Charlie tells Mei she can return to the modern age during the next full moon. Mei chooses to stay with Ogai, so Charlie leaves. However, Ogai struggles with writer's block, and a spirit named Elise appears to prevent him from finishing the romance novel.
