Ran, Sonoko, and Conan join Muneyuki Mino's pottery class to create mugs. Muneyuki is happy to see Ran because her father Kogoro previously solved a case at The Forgemaster's estate. Muneyuki later reveals a violent side by strangling his son-in-law, Motoo, to death. After Motoo disappears, Muneyuki asks student Kikuyo to search for him. Kikuyo finds an apron under a closet but sees no one. When Muneyuki opens the doors, Motoo's body falls out. Police investigate the scene. Conan watches Muneyuki and Kikuyo closely. He identifies Muneyuki as the killer using circumstantial evidence. Conan confronts Muneyuki alone, causing the murderer significant fear.
