Jenny Dolittle alerts Kane and Misa to three unidentified ships, including the Bentenmaru, trailing them. Marika and Chiaki determine one vessel is jamming the Odette II’s transponder to isolate the Sand of the Red Star. Marika uses high frequency radar to identify the intruder as the Alcyon, a battleship lost one hundred twenty years ago. The ship vanishes upon re-scanning, confirming its ghostly nature. Kane contacts the Bentenmaru to investigate while Marika and Chiaki eavesdrop from the bridge. Jenny, aware of Marika’s potential captaincy, watches the situation unfold. The club decides to fight back by maintaining their course around the Sand of the Red Star to draw out the enemy. They discover the ghost ship employs a drone to mask its transponder signal and evade radar detection.
