On the Orion, Chako identifies malignant nanomachines in Adam's body, likely entering through a hand scrape, and the group heads for the nearest sub-terraforming machine. They traverse a forest to reach an ancient, crumbling city, stopping at a large building suspected to be a hospital. The medicines found are estimated to be five hundred to a thousand years old, matching the age of Adam's ruins. Howard discovers writing on a medicine bottle identical to that in the ruins, revealing Adam's people originated from this planet and raising questions about his presence on the island. Upon reaching the terraforming machine, a spherical drone blocks their path with a laser. Luna attempts to approach alone, hoping her nanomachines and Adam's ID card will grant recognition, but the children act as decoys. The drone briefly glows blue and utters, "people are unnecessary," before vaporizing the ID card. Bell rescues Luna, and Kaaru destroys the drone with a knife, inadvertently shattering the machine's entrance door. Luna shares her experience regarding the voice she heard.
