Jan 7, 1992On New Year's day, President Ohara hosts Touzai staff and his rival Inota Okawa for lunch. Okawa, a self-proclaimed gourmand, displays wealth by serving fresh red sea bream from Akashi. Yamaoka identifies the cheek fat but suggests another part is superior. He extracts the section behind the head, which Okawa enjoys, restoring Ohara's standing. Yamaoka then shows that the scapula and coracoid bones resemble the fish, known as tai no tai, a good luck charm. Ohara and Okawa argue over the charm until Yamaoka notes there are two per fish, yet the rivals continue to bicker.

Jan 14, 1992When Yamaoka misses work for three days, Kurita and Mariko visit his home, where Ms. Chiyo, wife of the Gourmet Club chef, suggests they are suitable marriage candidates. With limited ingredients, Kurita locates Daiginjō sake, which they heat with water to create a warm sweet drink, while using remaining items to prepare a savory salmon soup. Both women receive praise from Ms. Chiyo for their efforts. However, Yamaoka later discovers that Kurita had secretly requested cooking instructions via phone from chef Mr. Okaboshi to complete the dishes.

Ohara assigns the work to Yamaoka, who is offered a 51% stake in the venture if he joins the Nito group. Yamaoka meets Mariko’s aunt, Teruko, hinting at an expected marriage to Mariko, which visibly upsets Kurita. Yamaoka later invites Niki to the Sarden restaurant, where the group dines on sardine dishes. Yamaoka explains the owner created the concept from scratch using an undervalued fish, and declines the ownership offer to maintain his integrity. Niki respects his principles but asks him to continue the project, to which Yamaoka agrees. A relieved Kurita then suggests taking Yamaoka out for a drink.

Feb 18, 1992Director Koizumi is depressed because the cat Pasha he is taking care of has stopped eating after having indigestion. It even refuses to eat its favorite food, dried horse mackerel that Koizumi buys from different places which he says tastes fine. Desperate, Koizumi threatens to cut Yamaoka's salary if he does not find a solution. Yamaoka takes Koizumi a local fish market where he buys fresh horse mackerel, then prepares and dries it naturally in the sun. He then takes Koizumi to a stockfish factory to buy some horse mackerel where they force-dry frozen imported fish in high volume. That night, Yamaoka offers three types of dried horse mackerel to Pasha who selects and eats only one of the three offerings. The adults then taste the same fish and Koizumi declares that the sun-dried fish tastes much better, but Koizumi again threatens to cut Yamaoka's salary after he implies that Koizumi had a less-discerning palate than the cat.
133EP 133Sataka seeks the third monkey statue while Arakawa cancels his wedding reception due to debt.
Feb 25, 1992Ms. Kinue Tabata cancels her wedding reception to Mr. Arakawa because he must pay an old friend's large debt. Wealthy art collector Sataka sees a photo of a ceramic vase owned by difficult collector Hoichi Matsumori, which features one of three carved wooden wise monkeys. Sataka owns the other two and demands the third. Arakawa, Yamaoka, and Kurita approach Matsumori, who agrees to unite the pieces only if he dines with Sataka. Matsumori threatens to burn the statue if he deems Sataka unworthy. Yamaoka trains Sataka in food preparation. During the dinner, Sataka serves simple rice balls with various fillings, surprising Matsumori. Recognizing the reference to the Monkey-Crab Battle, Matsumori willingly gives the monkey figure to Sataka.

Kurita learns Kaibara knows Kiso and tasks him with the invitation, contingent on brewing a suitable tea. With Yamaoka absent, Kurita creates a beverage using cherry blossom petals, cinnamon, and pickled cherry blossoms. Kaibara approves the drink, primarily to ensure victory over the Ultimate Menu in the upcoming contest.
136EP 136The Ultimate Wedding Reception Part 2
Mar 17, 1992The Ultimate VS Supreme wedding reception menu is to be held over two weddings. The first is the Supreme Menu at the Nakai and Aotani wedding, and the Touzai Cultural Department staff attend. The meal is presented as a double-layer bento box containing the simple foods that the husband and wife ate growing up as a way of introducing the two families to each other. For the Tabata and Arakawa wedding with the Ultimate Menu, Yamaoka selects the grounds of the Yonezo Art Gallery. He also presents bento boxes, but with dishes containing wild grasses growing in the grounds of the gallery collected by the wedding couple. When the couple prepare to cook vegetable tempura, Kiso intervenes and tells Arakawa that he should also have taught him how to cook, and congratulates him on a successful event. Again, the result is declared a tie, partly to avoid the embarrassment of declaring one wedding better than the other.
