Aoshi Shinomori declines a request for protection from another politician facing a written death threat. Misao sends the letter to Okina, who identifies the language as Portuguese or Dutch and notes the symbol matches the corpse’s carvings. The assassin kills the politician and puts Misao into a coma. The group travels to Kyoto and discovers the killer uses Hiten Mitsurugi-ryuu battoujutsu. Kenshin visits Seijuro Hiko, who reveals the assassin is Shougo Amakusa, a Christian swordsman capable of defeating the Kuzu-ryuusen attack.
