Kenshin Himura goes fishing to provide food. At the river, he encounters an elderly man who shares a legend about fireflies. The story reveals the man’s deceased lover, who waited for him to return from his long sword mastery quest. The old man conveys that every man meets one unforgettable woman. Kenshin listens to this poignant narrative and subsequently returns with an iris flower. He does not present the flower to Kaoru Kamiya, keeping the memento to himself after hearing the tale of enduring love and loss.
