The group explores Shimabara and meets Sir Elsten, an ambassador Kenshin saved a decade ago at the end of the Edo dynasty. Elsten requests contact if riots occur. Shougo, unaware Sanosuke holds the medallion, proves his divine status to a Christian crowd through miracles. Kaoru expresses pity for the persecuted Christians to Yahiko. They observe Christian children drop a medallion. Kaoru discovers a cathedral location inside a cave house. Meanwhile, Kenshin and Sanosuke are surrounded by dogs led by a round man with a whistle in another cave section.
