Shūrei Investigates Salt Prices While Tan-tan’s Father Dies

With half a month remaining, Shūrei converses with Tan-tan, who requests she play the erhu. Ryūki confesses his love for Shūrei to Riō-kun(junior). In the garden, Shūrei meets a mysterious man. While cooking, she notices gritty salt and discovers prices have risen due to sand mixing. She resolves to investigate despite Tan-tan’s warnings. Seiga-kun joins the effort, and Shūrei consults Rin Sai-Tei and Shūei, receiving peaches. The next morning, she has breakfast with Ryūki and Riō-kun(junior), who initially hides behind a bookshelf. Shūrei and Seiga-kun work diligently. Hakumei-kun appears, and Seiga-kun leaves. During the investigation, Yōshū-san arrives, noting Tan-tan’s absence and suggesting rumors of his father’s death are true, shocking Shūrei.

The Director General, a man Shūrei met in the garden, appears and assigns them to work under him. Shūrei learns Tan-tan’s father is alive and guarded by Seiran. During an imperial head officials meeting, the joukan assessment results are released, listing officials for dismissal. Riō Hyō becomes Chief Secretary of the Department of Mystic Study. Shūei Ran receives a letter stating his sister Jyūsan-hime will be sent to the inner court.

Jyūsan-hime and Shūrei face attacks and reunite after prison inspection

After Seiran departs, Jyūsan-hime and Shūei converse. Shūrei and Tan-tan visit a prison to inspect, where Shūrei speaks with prisoner Shun-san, who is released as innocent. On their way back, the pair is ambushed by a group but escapes unharmed. Upon returning, Shūrei and Seiga discuss their mission and Jyūsan-hime’s arrival, with Tan-tan helping to lift her spirits. Later, Shūrei encounters Riō(junior) while searching for a book and shares tea with him. Meanwhile, Shusui and Ryūki hold a discussion. Jyūsan-hime speaks with Shūei, and the episode concludes with Jyūsan-hime and Shūrei meeting again.

Shūrei and Ensei appear, and Jin encounters the Black Wolf after departing. Shūrei and Seiga submit a report to Kouki. Later, Kōyū and Shūei converse. Shūei and Ryūki fight, after which Shūei returns the Iris Sword. Ryūki presents an embroidered handkerchief to Shūei and decides to take him back.

Ryūki Challenges Shūrei to a Marriage Contest Before the Sakura Blooms

Shūrei and her companions return from Ran province to the Imperial City. Ryūki informs Shūrei that he cannot wait indefinitely for her, citing his imperial duty to marry. He proposes a contest: if he wins her affection within a set timeframe, she will marry him; otherwise, she wins, he will cease his requests, and he will wed Jyūsan-hime, who has succeeded Shusui as head of the court ladies. Shūrei accepts the challenge and asks for the duration. The narrative concludes with Ryūki whispering the deadline, "Until the Sakura Blooms," into Shūrei's ear.
