She reluctantly assumes the role of class president once more and attempts to address the bullying directed at Sugimoto. Her dreams grow increasingly vivid, leading to an encounter with a blonde-haired man at her school. A mysterious force devastates the classrooms, yet Yoko and the stranger remain unharmed. She discovers that enemies are hunting her and that she alone possesses the power to defeat them. After destroying a demonic crow that had been pursuing her, Yoko is drawn into a swirling whirlpool, which serves as the portal to the twelve kingdoms.

Apr 16, 2002Keiki transports Yoko, Sugimoto, and Asano into a different world. A youma attack causes them to become separated. Yoko wakes up on a beach and heads toward a village, where she is captured. The locals label her a kaikyaku and imprison her, leading to a reunion with Sugimoto. He fails to recognize her due to her altered appearance and her ability to speak the local language. Later, as the villagers escort the girls to the palace for trial, they encounter Asano, who has also been taken captive. The group then faces an attack from youma known as Kiki.

Apr 23, 2002The Kiki, youma who previously aided Sugimoto, attack the group, but Yoko repels them with her sword. Asano later reports that he witnessed Keiki transform and seemingly perish. Meanwhile, the King and Kourin discuss the threat of free kaikyaku, ordering their destruction via a dispatched bird. Starving, the three strangers seek shelter at a farmhouse, where they are discovered by the owner, Taiki. Although Sugimoto urges Yoko to kill Taiki, she refuses. Taiki provides food, clothing, and employment, and the group travels to a nearby town. During the journey, Yoko experiences a waking dream in which a man named Aozaru uses masks of her acquaintances to undermine her confidence and beliefs.

Apr 30, 2002After a discussion with Aozaru, the group rests at an inn where Taiki leaves Asano behind to avoid recognition. An old man overhears Asano and understands his language. In the next town, Yoko realizes Taiki intended to sell them into servitude, as Aozaru predicted. They escape a brothel and defeat a large youma. Yoko and Sugimoto are rescued by Asano and the old man, who appears friendly but plans betrayal. The trio flees to the woods. Later, Aozaru visits Yoko, warning her not to trust anyone, even friends. Asano returns, sees Yoko with a sword, and knocks it away fearing suicide. Sugimoto enters the woods and encounters Kourin.

May 7, 2002Kourin reveals to Sugimoto that she rescued her upon arrival, not Keiki, and Sugimoto follows her. Left alone, Asano and Yoko attempt to rob strangers for food. Yoko recognizes the boy from town and refuses the offered food due to distrust, feeling increasingly isolated. Asano admits he wanted to join Sugimoto but was stopped. A pack of Kiki attacks, and Yoko fights them off while Asano falls near the river. Sugimoto and Kourin arrive after Yoko stabs the white Kiki leader. Sugimoto attacks Yoko, claiming she always wanted her dead, but Kourin intervenes just as Yoko’s hand is injured, warning that the youma will now finish her.

May 21, 2002King Kou reprimands Kourin for sparing Yoko’s life and exiles Sugimoto to his promised land. Yoko wakes in a cottage cared for by Rakushun, a talking rat who reveals that babies are harvested from trees rather than born naturally. He explains that yokai are respected in En, unlike in Kou, and urges her to travel there. Sugimoto arrives at his estate and is forced to remain despite wanting to return to the castle as the chosen one. Meanwhile, Rakushun provides Yoko with a crude map of the Twelve Kingdoms. As they enter a city, they are attacked by youma and a flock of kochou, prompting Yoko to draw her sword and embrace the combat.

She returns to search for Rakushun but fails to find him. Instead, she encounters the entertainer troop she intended to rob earlier. Having witnessed her battle with the youma, they invite her to join them for protection. Upon reaching the port to board a ship to En, Yoko discovers the area is swarming with troops actively searching for her.
EP 8Sugimoto Confronts Yoko Amidst King Kou's Deadly Youma Attack in En
Jun 4, 2002King Kou orders Sugimoto to assassinate Yoko, who remains alive. Sugimoto instructs Kourin to alter Yoko's appearance and observes Kourin's illness. The entertainer group travels to En with Yoko, who boards a smaller vessel to avoid endangering them. Sugimoto spots her on the main ship but hesitates due to her changed appearance. King Kou summons youma to eliminate Yoko, forcing Sugimoto to fight her to avoid displeasing the king. A massive water youma emerges, consuming all other youma and killing the hinman within Sugimoto. Witnessing the death of the kind hanjyuu boy, Sugimoto faints. She awakens in En with no trace of Yoko.

Although Enki initially swore never to select a king due to the atrocities committed by rulers, he eventually traveled through a shoku and encountered the man who would become King En. After observing his actions, Enki pledged his loyalty and chose him as king. Yoko is told this tale to understand the methods by which kings and queens are selected in the Twelve Kingdoms.
