Consequently, the magistrate commands that all samurai and their companions be seized, regardless of whether they are captured alive or dead. Kambei and his group manage to evade capture by sneaking out of the town. They execute a bold escape using a runaway train. During the chaotic crash, Kikuchiyo is presumed to have died. This sequence of events highlights the intense danger faced by the group as they attempt to survive the magistrate's wrath and the subsequent accident.
